What are custom stickers?

Custom stickers are a cost-effective way to add colour and other marketing to your packaging. They’re also ideal for holding secondary packaging, like tissue paper, in place or even handing out as brand freebies. Our custom stickers for packaging are FSC-certified and available in sheets and rolls.

How to choose the right custom stickers

First, choose the quantity, shape and size of your custom stickers. These are all personal choices, and there’s no one correct answer. Luckily, with the Sourceful platform, you can choose the exact dimensions of your stickers online, giving you the most flexibility. Our custom stickers are also available in circles, squares and rectangles.

Next, decide whether you want your stickers delivered as sheets or rolls. Sheets are good for lower volumes or larger stickers, but they do take up more space per sticker than rolls. One other drawback is that you can’t apply sheets with a dispenser, meaning fulfilment will be slower. Rolls, however, are much faster and easier to apply than sheets. They’re also good for storing high volumes.

Lastly, choose either an uncoated or splashproof finish. Uncoated custom stickers are more sustainable and have a natural feel. They are, however, subject to water damage. If you’re sticking your stickers onto the outside of your packaging, like a mailer box, for example, this may be important. A splashproof coating has a semi-gloss finish and will protect your stickers from light rain, spillages and fading, but it doesn’t make them completely waterproof.

How to choose the right size of sticker

There’s no right or wrong size of sticker, but here are three points to consider:

1. Custom sticker sheets have a smaller minimum size and a larger maximum size than sticker rolls. This means if you want the largest or the smallest sticker possible, you will have to choose sticker sheets. Depending on your business, this may affect your fulfilment operation.

2. The function of your sticker should influence the size. For example, if you’re creating branded stickers for packaging, you may want a larger size to make sure any brand assets are visible. This is especially important if you’re creating custom logo stickers for packaging. If your stickers are a solid colour with no branding though, a large size may not be as important.

3. Always consider how big your custom stickers are in comparison to your packaging. Whilst stickers can be a part of your overall design, if they are too big they may cover or detract from other elements, like artwork or images.

Are custom stickers recyclable?

Yes, custom stickers are recyclable, but they must be stuck to other recyclable packaging like mailer boxes or product boxes. On their own, the adhesive makes them non-recyclable, and customers disposing of them this way should put them in the general waste. Fortunately, this is very rare as custom stickers are almost always stuck to your packaging. A splashproof coating does not affect the recyclability of your stickers.

  1. Cb

    Core board

Used for the core of sticker rolls. Core board allows rolls to be easily handled, stored, transported and used. Core board is 100% recyclable.
  2. Gl

    Glassine liner paper

Glassine liner paper is paper lined with silicone and is used for stickers on rolls and sheets. It’s resistant to moisture which is ideal for stickers, but the silicone lining does make the paper non-recyclable.
  3. Wg

    White gloss paper

Ideal for vibrant, detailed designs. White gloss paper gives stickers a high gloss finish when printed on.
  4. Sa

    Solvent-based adhesive

Pressure-activated adhesive. Doesn’t need water or heat to adhere to packaging.
  5. Si

    Soy-based inks

Made with soy as their primary base, these inks are designed for high-quality digital printing. More sustainable than solvent-based inks.
  6. Wv

    Water-based varnish

Protects your stickers from rain and spillages but doesn't make them waterproof. It also prevents the sticker’s colour from fading. A water-based varnish doesn't affect recyclability.

Quality control

Every order from our suppliers undergoes a quality inspection process before it’s shipped. Any order that fails quality inspection is returned to the manufacturer or reproduced.

For orders manufactured internationally (outside the UK), we follow the Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL) method defined by ISO 2859 - 1.

For orders manufactured domestically (inside the UK), our suppliers perform the quality inspection process which we then verify through spot checks throughout the year.
